Northstar Shih Tzu – Paso Robles, California AKC Show & Preservation Breeder of Shih Tzu At Northstar Shih Tzu, we are proud to be a dedicated AKC show breeder and preservation breeder committed to honoring the beauty, structure, health, and temperament of the Shih Tzu. Located in Paso Robles, California, our program reflects decades of thoughtful stewardship—preserving the breed’s historical purpose while producing confident, elegant dogs capable of success in both the ring and the home. As part of the AKC Preservation Breeder community, our breeding decisions are never casual—they are planned with intention. We breed only from AKC-titled dogs that have proven themselves in the conformation ring under respected judges, demonstrating adherence to the breed standard. Each of our dogs is also fully health tested in accordance with the requirements of the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA CHIC program) and Embark genetic panels to ensure we are producing physically sound, genetically resilient dogs for future generations. Our puppies are raised in our home and treated as part of our family from birth. Our mother dogs are attentive, calm, and nurturing, and we provide a secure, enriched environment that lays the foundation for exceptional temperaments. Socialization begins early, with daily interaction from humans and exposure to everyday household activity and other animals. While some puppies may go to companion homes around 8–12 weeks, we often retain show prospects longer for temperament, structure, and movement evaluation. Pet-quality puppies are thoughtfully matched with homes based on personality assessments, ensuring a successful fit.
