Welcome to Storybook Maltese...Where fairytales begin with four paws and a purpose At Storybook Maltese, our dream is simple yet ambitious... to raise Maltese puppies so exceptional they feel like they stepped out of a fairytale. But our mission goes far beyond charm and cuteness. Our breeding program is built on outstanding, diverse, and DNA-tested bloodlines, with a pedigree stacked generation after generation with AKC Champions. These aren’t just beautiful dogs… they are legacy dogs. Our goal with every carefully planned litter is to improve the Maltese breed—not just maintain it. What We Prioritize (in order): 1. Health Comes First Imagine falling in love with your Maltese puppy, only to lose her to a preventable health issue. We breed to prevent that heartbreak. Every parent is DNA health tested, and we emphasize genetic diversity, giving your puppy the strongest possible foundation for a long and healthy life. 2. Temperament is Everything These aren’t kennel dogs. They live in our laps, follow us room to room, and sleep curled up beside us. We breed for calm, confident, affectionate temperaments—because a dog that bites, barks obsessively, or fears grooming is a dog at risk of ending up in a shelter. Many of our puppies grow up to become therapy and service dogs, so temperament isn’t just important... it’s non-negotiable. 3. Beauty That Steals Your Heart Our dogs have that unforgettable ‘baby doll’ look—big eyes, shorter muzzles, and expressions that melt hearts. While never sacrificing health or temperament, we aim for this look in every pairing. 4. Correct Structure Solid structure prevents common toy dog issues like luxating patellas. A well-built Maltese is not only more graceful, but also healthier. 5. Gorgeous, Manageable Coats We select for coats that are silky, not stringy or frizzy, making daily grooming easier for you and more comfortable for your pup. Whether you keep your Maltese in full coat or clipped short, a good coat makes all the difference. 6. Ideal Size We breed to the AKC breed standard of 4–7 lbs (with 4–6 lbs preferred). While we occasionally produce smaller or larger puppies, most of our Storybook Maltese fall within the ideal range. 7. Pigmentation That iconic black nose, lips, eye rims, and toe pads complete the classic Maltese look. While it ranks lower than health and temperament, you’ll see right away that our dogs shine in this area too. What Sets Us Apart?
