Adding and Managing Animals
Register your breeding animals with detailed health records, pedigree information, and health test results in the Breeder Dashboard.
Overview
The My Animals tab lets you maintain a registry of your breeding animals. Each animal record can include health tests, pedigree lineage, registration details, and photos. You choose which animals are visible publicly on your profile, showcasing the quality of your program.
Adding an Animal
- Go to the "My Animals" tab in your Breeder Dashboard.
- Click "Add Animal".
- Fill in the basic details:
- Name — The animal's registered or call name.
- Sex — Male or female.
- Breed — Select from your listed breeds.
- Registration number — Kennel club registration number.
- Color/markings — Coat color and distinctive markings.
- Date of birth
- Set the status:
- Active — Currently in your breeding program.
- Retired — No longer breeding but still in your care.
- Deceased — For record-keeping purposes.
- Sold — Transferred to a new owner.
- Set visibility. Toggle "Public" to show this animal on your public profile, or keep it private for internal records.
- Click "Save".
Adding Health Tests
- Open an animal's record and find the Health Tests section.
- Click "Add Health Test".
- Enter the test details:
- Test name (e.g., OFA Hips, PennHIP, CERF Eye Exam)
- Result (Pass, Fail, Carrier, Clear, etc.)
- Lab or certifying organization
- Date performed
- Save the test. Health test results appear on your public profile when the animal is set to public visibility.
Tip: Comprehensive health testing is one of the most important trust signals for pet seekers. Breeders who publish health test results typically receive more inquiries.
Pedigree Tree
Each animal can have a pedigree tree showing its lineage. To build the pedigree:
- Open the animal's record and click "View Pedigree".
- Add sire and dam. Select from your existing animals or create new ancestor records.
- Continue adding ancestors to build out the tree as far back as desired.
The pedigree tree is displayed visually and can be a valuable selling point for pet seekers interested in lineage and breeding quality.
Editing and Deleting Animals
- Edit any animal by clicking the Edit button on its record. Update information, add new health tests, or change visibility.
- Delete an animal by clicking Delete. This is permanent. Consider changing the status to "Retired" or "Sold" instead to maintain your records.
